When you first power on your device, you’ll be guided through the initial setup:

1. Connect your Ledger via USB or Bluetooth (for Nano X).
2. Choose “Set up as new device.”
3. Create a secure 4–8 digit PIN code. Avoid simple patterns like 1234.
4. Write down your 24-word recovery phrase exactly as shown on the screen.

Keep your recovery phrase private and never store it digitally. It’s the only way to recover your wallet if your Ledger is lost or stolen.

Never share your phrase with anyone, not even supposed “Ledger support” representatives. Ledger will never ask for it. If someone asks, it’s a scam.

Using Ledger Live, install the crypto apps for the coins you want to manage—Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and many others. Each crypto has its own app. Once installed, you can create accounts within Ledger Live to send, receive, and track your balances securely.

The private keys for each account remain safely on your Ledger device, never leaving its secure element chip. Even if your computer is compromised, your crypto remains protected.

To receive crypto, open the Ledger Live app and click “Receive.” Select the desired account, connect your device, and verify that the address displayed on your Ledger matches the one on your screen. This step ensures you’re not being tricked by malware or phishing.

To send crypto, confirm every transaction on your device’s screen. This protects you from unauthorized transfers and keeps your funds safe.

Ledger regularly releases updates that enhance security and add new features. When prompted, safely update your firmware and the Ledger Live app. Always double-check URLs before downloading updates to avoid phishing attempts.

Can I use Ledger on multiple devices?

Yes. You can install Ledger Live on multiple devices and connect the same Ledger hardware wallet to each. Your accounts will sync as long as you use the same recovery phrase.

What happens if I lose my Ledger?

If your Ledger is lost or damaged, you can restore access to your crypto with your 24-word recovery phrase using a new Ledger device. Never enter your recovery phrase on any website or computer keyboard.

Can Ledger hold NFTs?

Yes. Ledger Live supports Ethereum and Polygon NFTs. You can also manage NFTs via third-party platforms while keeping your private keys protected by the Ledger device.
